Musician-cum-actor Bally Sagoo swaps the mic for his debut British/Punjabi flick in Sajna Ve Sajna, a tale of the triumph of love and crystal-clear destiny. Sagoo is Bali, a spoilt brat, but none the less destined for true love, essayed by Preeti Jhangiani. A predictable game of emotional cat and mouse ensues, but concludes far too late to save the audience from disappointment.
After a freak accident in Scotland, Bali (Sagoo) is left in a coma. His doting grandfather, Kartar Singh (Tahil), travels to the Punjab for blessings of a speedy recovery for his grandson. Accompanying him on his holy journey is Manpreet (Jhangiani), a traditional village belle. Kartar returns to Scotland with Manpreet, envisaging her to be the daughter-in-law he always dreamed of, but finds Bali awake and harbouring intentions to marry dancer Charlene (Zoe Szypillo). Can Manpreet win Bali's heart the traditional Indian way?
"JHANGIANI IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR"
Aside from the wafer-thin storyline, confused characterisation and dreadful acting from most of the cast, the film has one trump card; not Sagoo in his acting debut, but lesser-known Bollywood actress Jhangiani, who provides the only mettle in an otherwise rusty love yarn. She emerges as a breath of fresh air while all around her flounder, and is the only saving grace from a truly disappointing viewing.
Sajna Ve Sajna is out in the UK on 30th Nov 2007.
