Bollywood Queen DVD (2003)

Bollywood Queen is well worth watching for its "sweet-natured, unexpectedly successful cross-fertilisation of down-at-heel East London chic and Asian musicals". Sadly though, for such a bright and warm movie, the DVD release is nothing special.

Poor Side Dishes

Bollywood Queen DVD screengrab

For those of you who just like your main course of a film properly served up on disc, then there should be no complaints with a lively Bollywood-laced 5.1 sound mix to get your feet tapping. However, if you like some decent side dish extra features on your DVDs, then this disc disappoints.

Fit For Hacks

All that's been done is that interview snippets used to promote the film to journalists have been lobbed onto the disc. Journalists get paid to watch such dull comments from cast and crew about the roles they play, and other such obvious tripe. You should not have to pay for the privilege to see such boredom. Trouble is, the only other thing to check out is B-roll footage of the cast and crew setting up to shoot scenes. So avoid the extras, but this DVD is worth a rental for the film, or a purchase once the price has come down.
