A Star is Born DVD (1954)

A career highlight for Judy Garland, this 1954 version of "A Star is Born" gets the all-star treatment on a DVD that fans will love.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture Has Warner Bros secretly remade this film? The quality of this restoration is astonishing with the Technicolor rich in tone, but detailed and sharp too. The fresh appearance of the image is truly something special.

Sound The new 5.1 mix commands the front speakers with real authority. Not only does it handle Garland's strident tones with ease, but gives the orchestra depth and separation.

DISC TWO SPECIAL FEATURES

Judy Garland Outtakes "The Man that Got Away" musical sequence was filmed on three different occasions, with three costumes and different set dressings for a total of 40 takes. Three takes, each with the important differences, are presented here, along with an alternate version of, "When my Sugar Walks Down the Street".

Hollywood Premiere Newsreel Running at just over a minute, this newsreel footage of the premiere is packed with star value, including glimpses of Danny Thomas, Gary Cooper, Lucille Ball, and Clark Gable.

Pantages Premiere TV Special This is a half-hour show made for TV to cover the huge premiere. The size of the crowd is incredible, and no wonder when you've got Dean Martin turning up for a chat to confirm just how extraordinary the premiere is.

Coconut Grove Premiere Party Studio head Jack Warner had a huge supper party organised after the screening. In this four-minute featurette, you can glimpse Bogey and Sinatra at Warner's table.

Warner Bros Exhibitor's Reel Jack Warner was no slouch when it came to publicity. He personally introduced this six-minute sneak peek at the upcoming "A Star is Born". What's interesting is that it includes alternate takes not in the finished film.
