Goldie Hawn is perhaps better known for being a dizzy blonde than for any of her numerous movies. Since breaking-out in 60s TV series Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, however, she's won an Oscar (for 1970's "Cactus Flower"), and received a nomination in 1981 for "Private Benjamin". Now she's starring with Susan Sarandon in "The Banger Sisters"...
How was it working with Susan Sarandon?
It was fun. It was really fun to play really opposite characters and to find the comedy in that, and the truth in that.
How would you describe your character, Suzette?
Suzette is actually a sad character but she's a lot of fun. She's very racy. She says exactly what she feels. She knows no censorship. She's lost everything and has only one thing which brought her great solace and great joy - and that's her best friend, whom she hasn't seen in 20 years.
Suzette is rather more well-endowed that you are naturally. Was it fun having a bosom?
Oh yes. I got to wear some fun costumes. The boobs were false. They were heavy, you know, and they were cumbersome and my spatial relations were completely off. I bumped into things! I didn't know they were out there! But I had so much fun. I really did. It was great wearing all that stuff.
Is there a message to the film?
The reality of all this is that you can't forsake your past. It's impossible. We make a ton of mistakes and at the same time you have to look back and forgive yourself and not eliminate everybody, because there is a lot of fun that you had.
