Indecent Proposal DVD (1993)

Back when this film was released, the ludicrous but brilliantly effective premise of "Indecent Proposal" was hot gossip: would you sleep with someone for $1m? Years later and will anyone buy this DVD release?

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture The opening misty shots don't make for an easy transfer to disc, but the picture is a bit too murky. It's otherwise fine for the rest of the film, if a little grainier than one might expect.

Sound For effective upgrades of films to 5.1 sound mixes, Paramount are consistently the best, with impressive attention to detail. A prime example is the casino scene in the movie where the speakers are immersed into the heady atmosphere of a gambler's paradise.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary Director Adrian Lyne sits in for an exceedingly polite commentary, where he compliments his camera shots and his cast in turn. It was a running joke between him and Demi Moore that he'd seen her in many casting sessions for various films, but had yet to cast her in a movie. Apparently by the time she came up for "Indecent Proposal" she looked older and more "womanly".

One cast member who was definitely old enough for his part was Robert Redford. Lyne was delighted to be working with such a star and admits, "I never quite got over was the fact I was working with Robert Redford". Even if you couldn't see Redford, you always knew he had arrived because a hush would fall over the set, something that Lyne was apparently not able to manage!

The gambling scenes were located in a real casino with the proviso that if a high roller came in and started gambling $2-3 million, then they would have to shut down filming for that day. There are few other revelations but Lyne provides constructive thoughts on his movie while discussing the input of individual actors.
