TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture The hand-held, slightly grainy feel and vibrant colours of the movie all transfer well to disc.
Sound While the 5.1 mix doesn't have any major work to do, it does help absorb you into the movie with atmospheric monsoon effects, and the busy bustle of Indian shopping streets.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Audio Commentary Director Mira Nair provides a fresh and interesting commentary that's pleasingly free of pretension that can bog so many others down. She was keen to make a film without studio or star pressure and chose to go ultra-low budget and work mainly with unknowns to create a movie that's a vibrant return to form. Made in only 30 days it was clearly an exhilarating experience that allowed her to communicate her love of her Punjabi cultural background.
Behind-the-scenes Featurette Mira Nair wanted to capture the Punjabi style of life, which is driven by working hard and partying even harder. She discusses her aims in this featurette, which also includes short interviews with some of the leading actors about the characters they play.
