Branded by some as nothing more than a glorified soap opera, "An Affair to Remember" isn't afraid to employ some rather obvious dramatic devices, but it's hard not to become swept-up into a romance that seems doomed to failure. Deborah Kerr handles a somewhat unsympathetic part well, and Cary Grant plays Cary Grant to perfection in a film that's worth getting on DVD.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture Finally we get to see the film in its proper 2.35:1 ratio instead of the pan and scan long shown on TV, and sold on cassette. It's somewhat of a revelation, especially when the picture quality is so good.
Sound Those of you expecting mono will be pleasantly surprised to hear that this film comes with a 2.0 stereo mix that works very well in Pro Logic mode, with the soppy music score wrapping you right into this sentimental film.
SPECIAL FEATURES
There's really not much here, apart from a very small behind-the-scenes gallery, and a trailer that shows Grant, Kerr, and director Leo McCarey discussing a scene. Despite that, the transfer of the film is very pleasing, and this disc is bound to become an addition for those of you who like to have a good stock of quality entertainment for those rainy Sundays.
