The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult DVD (1994)

This third "Naked Gun" film is not as visually inventive as its predecessor, but it's faster, funnier, and even sillier. It's also transferred onto the best DVD release of the series.

The picture quality is clearer than the "Naked Gun 2陆" disc. There's little to spoil the fun, although the matte scenery has sharpened up to the point of being rather more obvious than it ever was on VHS.

This disc also has by far the best 5.1 track of the series. Rather than just enhancing the bass effects, the rear speakers are allowed to join in the comedy fun. The opening titles should have you swivelling your head backwards, and the orchestral score is split cleverly between the front and rears.

There's the usual fun to be had from the commentary track, with ludicrously bad humour spiked with interesting facts. While there are obvious references to "The Untouchables" in the opening sequence, the producers claim that they were parodying "Battleship Potemkin". They also discuss the degrees of illness that George Kennedy was suffering from during production, and point out gags that you may well have missed.
