Eraserhead DVD (1977)

Fans of the startling "Eraserhead" should find plenty to enjoy in the DVD release. There is virtually nothing in the way of extra features, but the transfer of the film is very good.

While critics may be divided on the merits of this movie, almost all can happily agree that it features some particularly nauseating sequences. These polish up well in an excellent picture that makes the most of the inky black and white cinematography.

The soundtrack has been remixed into a 2.0 stereo signal that wraps the speakers in mechanised discord. The effect is meant to be unsettling, but can at times just become plain annoying as you're subjected to the aural equivalent of sitting in a boiler for 85 minutes. Nevertheless, it works well on DVD.

The extras are limited to a short biography and filmography for David Lynch. It's not a lot but then Lynch isn't famed for offering much in the way of commentary on his work.
