"Jurassic Park" was a revelation of ground-breaking new advances in special effects that astounded audiences of the time. Now, this prehistoric flick attempts to wow us again on DVD and it certainly looks as good as ever, and sounds even better.
The picture is nigh on faultless throughout and unlike other CGI-packed films that lose reality with the sharpness of DVD, this veteran still impresses.
Now blessed with a 5.1 sound mix you'll find raptors slashing across the room with terrifying ferocity. And that classic sequence with the ripples in the glass of water now gets a mighty thumping on the sub-woofer to accompany it .
As with other big-hitter DVDs, the emphasis is on cramming as many extras in as possible. There are certainly plenty on offer here with all listed below and descriptions added for the more interesting ones:
'Making of'
A 50-minute documentary with plenty of interesting behind-the-scenes action. As James Earl Jones narrates this, it takes on a certain depth that other cheesy features just don't have.
Pre-Production Meetings
Meeting of Spielberg and technical staff as he describes how he wants the dinosaurs to move for the most dynamic effects.
Storyboards
Four key scenes from the film are broken down as well as a deleted scene and the original ending.
Location Scouting
Various locations are looked at including the plain where the Gallimus stampede occurs.
'Raptors in the Kitchen'
A fascinating animation demo of the Raptors and the kids in the kitchen using a combination of storyboard and model work.
Foley Artists
A short but sweet demonstration of how Foley created the sounds for the dinosaur hatching. After watching this you can go and do it yourself!
Production Photos
Dinosaur Encylopaedia
Loads of dino facts.
Trailers
For both films and a waste of time teaser for the third.
