听 Matthew Broderick takes the type of day off that all of us aspire to but somehow never quite replicate in this famous 80s comedy. The good news is that with this DVD mastering it looks like it was made far more recently.
That's not to say that there isn't an occasional very fine grain to the picture or the odd fleck of print damage. But it's hardly anything to moan about when the image is overall so fresh and vibrant.
A new 5.1 soundtrack makes the most of all the classic 80s tunes. Especially the memorable "Yello" song that plays in chapter 4 and the amusing end credits where the sub-woofer really gets to ladle out the bass.
A real treat on this disc is a commentary by director John Hughes. He points out a wealth of interesting information including the fact that the opening scenes with Broderick feigning illness in bed were shot last. This was so that he would have had two months to get into the character. Hughes also highlights the moments of improvisation scattered throughout the film and recalls how the trailer had to be recalled to remove a reference to the space shuttle as a result of the 'Challenger' disaster.
There are no other features on the disc but Hughes' commentary is so good that it's probably the only extra information you'll ever need on the film. And you get to enjoy this fantastic classic looking and sounding better than it ever has.
