Mad Cows (1999)

WARNING! THE FOUR-STAR RATING IS ONLY FOR THE QUALITY OF THE DVD! THE FILM ITSELF SUCKS!

"Mad Cows" is a desperately poor and unfunny enterprise. But fans of Joanna Lumley will doubtless enjoy her performance in what is essentially an excellent transfer to DVD.

The picture quality is clear and impressively sharp given the intensely garish colour scheme used throughout the film. Likewise the sound track sounds great with an inappropriate but enjoyable selection of songs that make the most of the 5.1 coding. Especially enjoyable is chapter 3 where you get "Je t'aime" teasing deliciously between the rear speakers.

Along with the trailer you also get interviews with the stars and a little 'Making of' feature. Both are made in the fawning luvvie mould that while undoubtedly fun for the actors imparts little in the way of valuable information to the viewer.

All this is wrapped up with a very cool menu design that features a clear and easy to use scene selection. It's just a shame that such an awful film spoils all this effort.
