Local bands release charity track

Musicians from Bournemouth and Poole have got together to record a special track, a cover of Slade's Mama Weer All Crazee Now. It's recorded under the name of BournemouthAID, and all profits are going to Comic Relief.

A record by some of Bournemouth and Poole's best bands and musicians has been released to help support Comic Relief.

The track, a cover of Mama Weer All Crazee Now (originally recorded by Slade in the 1970s), was the idea of musician, producer and member of 鈥nd The Magical 8-Ball Band, Adam Scholey.

He says he wanted to find a project where he could get as much local music talent together to produce a CD, and the profits would go to charity.

Performing on the track are singers and musicians from across the live scene of Bournemouth and Poole including Lawrence Case from Voodoo Vegas, Richie Adam from Hoffman Sloth, Si Genaro, Zac Harris, who is big on the local acoustic scene, and musicians from Adam's own band.

'More of a party track'

Adam says: "It was originally my dad's idea to choose this particular track, but we took it and rocked it up a bit, and put our stamp on it - so it's heavier, quicker and much more of a party track."

Adam first had the idea last November when he contacted local musicians to find out who would be interested in taking part.

"Most of the people I got in touch with responded, saying they'd be willing to do it.

"I was impressed with how some of the higher profile bands were keen too, and it was great to meet them."

Recording of the song started in mid-January and the final version was finished and ready by the middle of February.

Who sang what?

Adam explains how he decided what parts of the song were sung by which singer: "Everyone singing on the track each recorded the whole vocal individually and then I chose each performer's best lines when I was mixing the final version. It all fitted into place.

"I had five or six different mixes and that process can get quite intensive but I got some others to listen as I was going along, and now everyone seems to be pleased with the result.

"It's a fun track that hasn't been done for a while, and it really fits in with what Comic Relief is about."

Mama Weer All Crazee Now was launched at a special gig at Mr Kyps in Poole on Thursday 5 March, which featured live performances from the bands involved, and the CD itself can be bought in several shops around Bournemouth and Poole, with all profits going to Comic Relief.

More information on where it can be bought, and the gig at My Kyps, can be found on the project's Myspace webpage.
