Mevagissey
is a beautiful and popular tourist attraction.
You
can hear the seagulls, watch the fishermen and enjoy the majestic
views.
While
you are there you can also have a nose around the various shops
selling Cornish gifts, paintings, and Sid Vicious autographs!
Cloud
Cuckoo Land is a unique shop, there really is no other like it in
Mevagissey or for that matter the rest of Cornwall.
Paul
Mulvey says he lives in Cloud Cuckoo Land and as soon as you enter
his shop you realise it is a nice world to live in!
Back
in the 80's Paul owned a clothes shop in the famous Carnaby Street.
He would sell his clothes to pop stars like The Human League and
Yazoo for their appearances on Top Of The Pops. He would always
have his picture taken with the stars and ask them to sign it. More
and more people would ask him to sell the pictures and he went into
the world of autograph collecting.

Some Beatles
memorabilia |
Now
in Mevagissey everywhere you look there are reminders of your childhood.
If you collected doll look-a-likes of the Osmonds or The Spice Girls
you will find them in Paul's shop. It becomes the swinging 60's
again as you look at a novelty Beatles guitar dating from 1964 and
featuring the fab four's signatures.
"I had been looking to leave London for a while," explains
Paul. "I was based in Alfie's Antique Market for many years.
I had two or three customers a week there, here in Mevagissey I
can have 50 a day!"
His
customers in London were memorable though. One day a famous pop
star walked into his store and left the chatty Paul almost speechless!

collects autographs |
"This
limo pulled up and out got what looked like a Michael Jackson look-a-like,"
remembers Paul. "I kept wanting to say how his music would
still be admired 50 years from now, but all I could say was 'You're
Michael Jackson!' oh dear!"
The
pop prince bought a Walt Disney signed picture and one of karate
legend Bruce Lee. He was accompanied by David Guest who has recently
married Liza Minelli. Paul was invited to the wedding, but was unable
to leave Cornwall.
"The
model Kate Moss came into my shop once," smiles Paul. "She
wanted a signed picture of Sid Vicious and gave it as a Christmas
present to Ronnie Wood."
Collecting
is a big business all over the world but Paul admits not everything
he has been offered is genuine.
"A
chap once offered me a signed copy of the Best Of John Lennon,"
remembers Paul. "The thing was though the record came out a
year after he died, pretty impressive that he managed to sign it!"
For
Paul the autograph hunting is not only a job, it is a hobby too.
"My
favourite is a signed letter from Lord Nelson," smiles Paul.
"You can him sitting there on board Victory writing this very
letter. To me it means owning a piece of his life. I think it really
brings history to life."
