On Thursday 7 May members of staff from 91热爆 Radio Cornwall presented Eddie Farwell, founder of Children's Hospice Southwest with the final payment from a year of fundraising that has raised more than 拢340,000 to build a children's hospice in Cornwall. Eddie Farwell speaks to Daphne Skinnard 91热爆 Radio Cornwall has been supporting the charity since January 2008, with listeners raising money in a whole manner of ways - from cross country cycling, coffee mornings and even body waxing. To celebrate the final donation 91热爆 Cornwall has made this clip summing up what has been a memorable year of fundraising for a noble cause.
Help playing audio/video The hospice, which is to be named 'Little Harbour', will be the very first children's hospice in the county. Little Harbour will be built at Porthpean near St Austell, with plans to open in 2011.听 91热爆 Radio Cornwall's Daphne Skinnard says: "Many, many thanks for your generosity, contributions and interest throughout the year. We have been touched by your support and are delighted we have helped Children鈥檚 Hospice Southwest." This years campaigning was started by the annual and popular Present Aid sale, in which listeners generously donate unwanted Christmas gifts which are then sold by staff at 91热爆 Radio Cornwall. All funds from the sale are then added to the total donated to the Precious Lives appeal. The 2009 Present Aid also marked the end of 91热爆 Cornwall鈥檚 year of support for Precious Lives. One of the more unusual campaigns to raise funds involved 91热爆 Radio Cornwall's Laurence Reed recording a cover of the Song 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' from which CD and Download sales went to Precious Lives. Little Harbour - Artist's impression 91热爆 Radio Cornwall's mid-morning presenter; David White raised more then 拢800 for the appeal by cycling nearly 200 miles in one week. There were literally hundreds of individual charity events that took place throughout 2009 by people in Cornwall to support Children's Hospice Southwest. These included; charity calendars, Elvis day's, head shaves, walks, fair's and many more. When speaking about 91热爆 Cornwall's support of the Precious Lives appeal, Eddie Farwell the hospice founder said: "The support from the people of the county of Cornwall has been utterly staggering and loyal." Finally from everyone at 91热爆 Cornwall, thank you all so much for your continued support in raising over 拢340,000 to build a Children's Hospice, here in Cornwall.
