David on his cycling challenge

Blazing Saddles

91热爆 Radio Cornwall's David White has raised more then 拢800 for the Precious Lives Appeal. The presenter cycled almost 200 miles in just one week to raise funds for the charity which is building a hospice for poorly children in Cornwall.

Blazing Saddles was David White's Big Cycle ride in aid of the Children's Hospice South West Precious Lives Appeal.

David spent five days, after his morning radio show, cycling around Cornwall. He covered almost 200 miles in five days, raising more than 拢800 along the way.

More than 50 motorbikes, scooters and push-bikes turned out on Sunday 5 October to join David for the final leg of his charity cycle ride.听

David couldn't believe the response to his final lap as he cruised down towards the studios here in Truro.

The weather wasn't kind for the start of David's record attempt.

"The weather was horrible and I got completely soaked in Fraddon and ended up having to pull over and hide under the opening of the church," explains David in his online diary from day one of the charity event.

"The day started pretty bad as I had a problem with the valve so couldn't keep any air in the rear tyre. Thankfully Fred from Clive Mitchell Cycles in Truro came over while I was on air and put a new tube and a new tyre on so the bike was ready to go by lunchtime."

The weather did improve and on day five, David was able to ride 56 miles - making his final total 193 miles.

"When we rounded the bend at Threemilestone I wasn't prepared for the sight of all the bikers waiting on the roundabout. I thought there was going to be four or five bikes but there must have been over 50 plus god knows how many scooters," says David.

"My thanks goes out to Dave Saunby who organised the motorbikers and to Buster who organised the scooters.

"It was lovely to see some of the netball girls there too and along the route. I believe they were only there to witness my pain after me putting them through so much pain in the past."
