Livewire in Saltash

Blast Diary 5

This week I've been busy finding out about a hugely popular local youth club, interviewing a range of people and improving on a few skills. It's been all go!

I used to go to the club, Livewire Youth Music Project, when I was younger and thoroughly enjoyed it. Since I had last been, I had heard it had dramatically changed in many ways and so I wanted to know how.

As I hadn鈥檛 added any audio to my reports so far, I thought I鈥檇 try and record at least one interview with people connected to the club.

I went down there to speak with a few of the members to see what they were enjoying about Livewire, and was pleased to find the place still had a great, welcoming atmosphere. People were very willing to talk about their experiences.

I鈥檝e learned a lot from the past seven days. First of all, I realised I have a very dull 鈥渋nterviewing voice鈥 and should probably not try for a job on 91热爆 Radio Cornwall any time soon!

Despite this, I think my interviewing skills have improved. I feel more confident in approaching strangers and asking for their opinions than I did just a couple of weeks ago.

The project鈥檚 youth co-ordinator Andy is something of a local legend, and I was very grateful that he took ten minutes out of his eternally hectic schedule to speak to me about Livewire.

One of Livewire鈥檚 bands, The Aviators, also spoke to me about what they enjoyed about the club, and about what it's like being a young band in Cornwall.

Editing down a ten-minute interview takes longer than you might expect. I鈥檓 pleased with the final results, and think the audio clips make for interesting listening.

Unfortunately I think I got so distracted with the audio recordings, that I nearly completely forgot about taking photographs. I took one of the Livewire building and another of the Tamar bridges the venue is next to, but none of the inside.

That鈥檚 a shame, because the live music venue looks fantastic, even on the rare occasion where it鈥檚 empty!
