BlastYou are in: Cornwall > Blast > My Fourth Blast Diary My Fourth Blast DiaryBy Alex Hannon Blast on Tour came to Truro鈥檚 Lemon Quay last week, and as Cornwall鈥檚 Blast reporter, of course I made my way over there to get involved! I was mostly helping out with the workshop entitled 鈥淢aking the News鈥 with journalist Dan Jones. Before the session began, I was given plenty to do, as we were having some technical problems. Young reporters researching stories We wanted to have two examples of radio news bulletins to play to the attendees of the course, to give them an idea of what they were going to be making. This became quite a challenge - surprisingly, even the 91热爆 can suffer from slow internet connections! I definitely felt useful as I helped with the running of the session. It was great to meet the other Blast volunteers on work experience who were assisting with every aspect of the event. Those in the Making the News session were given professional-looking 91热爆 microphones, and sent out into Truro to quiz members of the public with questions such as which celebrity they thought would make the best prime minister! They later returned to the Blast truck to begin piecing together their news report. It was great to see so many people taking advantage of the opportunities the Blast truck was offering. It's not very often that experts such as these give tips and advice away for free! A 91热爆 Blast microphone Thankfully the weather was mostly dry and sunny on Thursday, which was good news for the large number of people who had signed up for the parkour workshop. A special course had been set up outside, and after the professionals had demonstrated their skills, they began passing on their wisdom to the young people who had turned up to learn. There was a great atmosphere. Everyone was busy, but also very approachable. I wanted to join in some of the activities myself, but had to remind myself why I was there! Some of the material created over the three days will be added to the Blast website, along with creations from other places the Tour has visited. It's a great online community and it allows people from opposite ends of the country to share what they've learned. I was only there for a day but I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as did everyone else I spoke to. last updated: 08/04/2009 at 15:04 |
