Gig on the Green

Blast Diary 3

Last weekend involved me travelling to a large field, experiencing changeable weather and listening to some live music - all at once. Find out more about my day at Truro's Gig On The Green...

For this week's Blast report, I headed to the sixth Gig on the Green festival in Boscawen Park, Truro. My aim was to take some photographs and record an interview with one of the acts performing at the event.

The line-up was impressive, featuring some exciting new bands such as Glass Shark and Rosie and the Goldbug. These are acts who are growing in popularity not just in Cornwall, but all over the country.

As well as the three music stages, there were several activities for people to have a go at. A large area of the park was occupied by several obstacle courses, through which teams competed, some raising money for charities.

Unfortunately, the rain arrived at around 1pm, and the beer tents suddenly became very popular! Of course, being on 91热爆 duty, I consumed no alcohol. We were advised on our training weekend in Bristol to not be seen drunk on the job.

There was one band in particular I was keen on interviewing. I had researched them using the Internet and prepared my interview questions as I had been taught!

Unfortunately, I was unable to find the band members. Due to the open nature of the festival, there wasn't much of a 'backstage' area, and it was impossible to tell who was in a band and who wasn't.

However, I managed to grab an interview with singer and keyboard player Steph Newton as she left the stage. A number of factors - including the rain - meant it was a very brief chat! Sadly it wasn't long enough to make a feature on the website.

Train times meant I had to leave at about 3pm, which was a shame considering the event continued until 9pm.

The photographs of the event were the best thing I took away from Gig on the Green, and they can be seen in the separate image gallery on the Blast index.

Later this week, the 91热爆 Blast truck will be in Truro, and I'll be there again with my reporting gear. The featured workshops range from singing lessons to dancing competitions, and are open to everyone between the ages of 13 to 19. There's something for everyone!

There is so much scheduled over the three days, I'm sure I'll be kept busy!
