Staff at Cornwall's National Sea Life sanctuary in Gweek decided to see how they would get along with living together. The Sea Life Sanctuary suffered two tragedies in succession when Rocky the Californian sea-lion lost his lifelong partner, and then Patagonian sea-lion Carus passed away at the ripe old age of 27.  Boadicea - Rocky's new lady friend Efforts to find new partners for both Rocky and Carus's lady friend Boadicea are still on-going. So the staff decided to see how Rocky and Boadicea got on if they were put together. It was with some trepidation that the team moved Rocky into Boadicea's larger, newer pool this week - given that Patagonian and Californian sea lions are separated by miles of coastline, and certainly don't usually commune in the wild. To their delight, however, the pair hit it off immediately and both already appear happier, and more active.
Though completely blind, Rocky needed only a couple of hours to have his new environment mentally mapped out and can already propel himself around his and Boadicea鈥檚 pool at high speed. Animal Care Supervisor Tamara Cooper said: "Luckily we don't have to worry about the prospect of Californian or Patagonian babies, because Rocky has never displayed any interest whatsoever of a physical nature. Well, not beyond touching noses anyway."
