Tresco from the air by Tom Corser

Tresco, Isles of Scilly

Walking the Scillies

With 20 themed walks around the beautiful Isles of Scilly, the UK's most westerly walking festival is returning in March 2008, bigger than ever. Last year over 600 people visited the various guided walks, talks and music events.

Walk Scilly is returning to showcase the special environment of the Isles of Scilly.

The seven day festival will see a series of themed guided walks taking place across the Islands.

A variety of local experts will lead over 20 walks, on topics such as archaeology and gardens, flora and fauna, castles and cliffs, beaches and birds, bats and boats.

There will even be a ghost trek for those who want to see a spooky side to the islands.

The walks have been graded by 'footprints' to show how easy, or demanding they are; from an easy stroll on road and path to the fairly strenuous, with several inclines/hills.

There will be additional talks and presentations in the evenings, an opening night dinner and dance with some special guests (to be announced) and a final day charity walk around St Mary's involving as many locals and visitors as possible.

The Scillies have a special magic all year round, but especially in the Spring, with golden fields of narcissi in flower, and much more.

The Walking Festival takes place from 24-31 March 2008.

Organisers believe this year's event will eclipse the success of the first Walk Scilly which took place in 2007.

"We were absolutely delighted with the success of Walk Scilly last year when over 600 people took part," says Walk Scilly organiser Richard Wilcox.

Bryher by Issy Taylor

The walks take in islands like Bryher

"It's a wonderful event which gives people the opportunity to find out much more about the history and diversity of Isles of Scilly, thanks to the expertise and knowledge of the guides on the walks."

There will be a maximum allowance of 25 people on each guided walk. Booking for guided walks essential. For more information and to book your place, click on the link below:
