Since the Middle Ages the area has had one, but this ended in 1994. After plenty of fundraising by villagers the age-old tradition has returned. A blacksmith's forge which has been renovated to restore the beating heart to a Cornish village opened on Wednesday 14 November 2007. There have been blacksmiths in Mawnan Smith near Falmouth since the Middle Ages. When the forge closed in 1994 villagers were determined to reopen it some day. Richard at work Now 13 years later, and after plenty of fundraising by the dedicated villagers, Mawnan Smith once again has a blacksmith. It's now part of a craft centre which also includes a potter and a wood turner. Help playing audio/video The local trust which has restored the old blacksmith's forge says it should bring the heart back into the village of Mawnan Smith near Falmouth. The Anvil Trust raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to restore the forge which is now being used by a blacksmith and to create some craft workshops. It is the culmination of five years hard work by local people. The new village blacksmith could be about to become a star of the internet.
