In November the rowing club will celebrate the arrival of its new GRP training gig with a ceremony at Marazion near Penzance. Find out more. The members of Pendeen Gig Rowing Club have every reason to be excited and proud about their new arrival. The rowers raised all the money through a successful bid from the 'Awards for All, Big Lottery Fund'.听 In fact the club says it was the biggest grant in the county this year. The athletes were awarded nearly 拢10,000 to buy it. Crew members take a break between races The need for the new gig comes after the rowers found structural damage to their racing gig 'Avarack' when they were carrying out routine maintence. Its builder Andrew Nancarrow inspected it and made a temporary repair but the rowers were told work would cost 拢3500. The Club decided to buy a training gig for practices.听 Pendeen Gig Club started in 1999. The rowers initially borrowed 'Lyonesse' but in 2000 they bought their own boat. The ceremony to celebrate the new purchase will take place on Saturday 10 November. The former Mayor of St Just, Sylvia Smith will name the gig 'Potheras' and the Rev Canon Alan Rowell will bless it.听 The celebrations will continue in Pendeen in the afternoon with a procession lead by Pendeen Silver Band and a blessing.
