Prince William was among the people to welcome Olly back to Falmouth after his row from America. Hear our interview. Hundreds of people gathered at Events Square in Falmouth in October 2005 to welcome back a young record breaker. Olly Hicks hit the headlines after becoming the youngest person to row solo from America to Britain, completing his crossing at the Isles of Scilly. When he arrived back in Falmouth, Prince William and Richard Branson were among those waiting to welcome him back on dry land. The 91热爆 Cornwall webteam were among the crowd on that big day. The Prince welcomed Olly into Falmouth Olly will be travelling along the line of 50 degrees south latitude - through some of the most dangerous seas on the planet. He plans to set off on his Virgin Global Row from Wellington, New Zealand, in 91热爆 Radio Cornwall's Martin Bailie spoke to Olly Hicks about his future adventure. Audio and Video links on this page require Realplayer The 拢550,000 expedition's boat, a new design by marine designer Phil Morrison, The boat will carry dehydrated rations and an emergency supply of 50 litres of water, as well as several 'desalinators' to make fresh water. There will also be eight cameras on board to record wildlife Olly sees on his marathon voyage. Olly arriving into Falmouth in 2005 The global rower will also be working to raise awareness of climate change and global warming, showing that it is possible to live off alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power. "In the course of the expedition I will be taking daily meteorological readings and sending these back directly to my shore team who will make them available to any interested bodies or scientists,"听 Olly said.
