The team of volunteers, which included 91热爆 Radio Cornwall producer Katy Young, headed to Penryn armed with protective gloves and bin bags. Their mission was to clear a one mile stretch of beach from Penryn Slip to Trevissome Quay. In just three hours the enthusiastic volunteers, from Truro College Diving School, filled 20 bin bags of rubbish. I strongly urge locals and visitors alike to stop using the sea as a dustbin and dispose of their rubbish in a responsible manner," said Ollie Chambers, who runs the diving school. After three hours the beach was spotless "This rubbish was only from a mile stretch and it really brought it home to me the impact this must be having on our marine environment." Included in the rubbish were two marine batteries, pieces of carpet, bottles, condoms, cans, plastic bags, tyre, plastic pipe, and a food crate. The stretch of beach was completely clear of rubbish by the time the volunteers finished. Let's hope it stays that way! last updated: 02/07/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Cornwall > Planet Cornwall > Planet Cornwall > Beach Clean Up
