The first ever 'Brazilian Festival in Kernow' promises the sights, sounds and smells of the carnival city of Rio de Janeiro. For the first time ever in Cornwall, the spirit of Brazil will be on display through food, music, dance and breathtaking acrobatic martial art displays. The five day festival begins on Wednesday 30 May. It will be crammed full of performances and workshops in samba percussion and dance, Maculele (Afro-Brazilian dance) and Capoeira, the amazing acrobatic Brazilian martial art made famous by the 91热爆1 ident. Capoeira display The workshops will run every day from Wednesday 30 May to Sunday 3 June (except Saturday). The focal point of the festival will be a grading ceremony (Batizado) for the 50+ students of Capoeira Cornwall on Saturday, 2 June, in Truro, which will be followed by a Rio Party Night, the biggest Brazilian party Cornwall has ever seen, complete with a 15-piece Samba band, Rio Carnival dancers, Brazilian DJ and acrobatic Capoeira displays. Craig Blackburn (Instructor Canguru) heads up Capoeira Cornwall, the host of the festival. He said: "It's going to be the biggest Brazilian party Cornwall has ever seen. Capoeira, samba, Maculele and Brazilian music have never come together like this before." Essential InformationWorkshops will be at various venues in Falmouth and Truro. The Batizado will be at the state-of-the art theatre facility at Chacewater Village Hall. The Rio Party Night will be at Porthtowan Village Hall.
