Redruth's massive annual event remembers its famous former resident William Murdoch and his numerous inventions.  Murdoch Day is out of this world As in previous year's the Children's Parade will start the day's event by lining the streets around Redruth.听The schools' theme for this year is 'The Elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water' so expect some fantastic displays of artwork from the children of Redruth.听听 In Murdoch House in Cross Street there will an exhibition of 'Influential Redruth People' as well as refreshments available.听 In St Rumon's Gardens there will be entertainment from the 'Black Rock Jazz Band', so you will be able to sit, relax and enjoy some great music.听 Across the road in the Royal British Legion there will be numerous activities taking place including a car boot sale/fete and fairground rides.听  Plenty of colour on Murdoch Day Cornish band 'Cahooty' will be playing in the afternoon and then a disco/karaoke commencing at 4pm.听 A great attraction in the Legion car park this year will the display and running of the Murdoch Flyer, a must see for everybody.听 Stalls will be lined up Fore Street with many items to buy and at the entrance to Green Lane will be the main podium with Freddy Zapp who promises to provide a great line up of entertainment throughout the day. William MurdochWilliam Murdoch was one of this country's great inventors. He was born at Lugar, Ayrshire on 21st August 1754 and learned much from his father who was a very capable millwright. At the age of 22, William left his home town to seek work with the firm of Boulton and Watt in Birmingham. William's ingenuity and ability was recognised by James Watt, and at the age of 25, he was appointed Senior Engine Erector in the company's most important and competitive area, Cornwall.
