Jude and Ray interview David Brent
Cooper & Webb talent spotters Jude and Ray try to fathom the depths of Wernhams Hogg's high flying manager David Brent.
The Interview
IF YOU COULD HAVE A WORKING LUNCH WITH ANYONE, LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Martin Luther King. The Dalai Lama. Rory Bremner.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT?
Alton Towers.
WHAT WOULD YOUR MOTTO BE?
Be careful because there is always someone ready to step into your shoes and do your job better than you do it.
WHAT ANGERS YOU?
World hunger. Racism. Bad management.
WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES?
Gandhi, Pele, Ali, Clapton. (Please note high-percentage of black heroes.)
STRENGTHS :
Ability to make employees say "David, not only do I count you as one of my best friends but I also respect you as my boss." (Mutual)
WEAKNESSES :
The words "Can't Be Done" are not in my vocabulary. Also, too loyal.
IF YOU COULD DO ANY JOB OTHER THAN YOUR OWN, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
A top high court judge. Not only can I always see both sides of any given situation clearly but my in-built Brent Bullshit Detector would be on bloody red alert in a court situation. I also feel I could inject some tasteful but much-needed humour into those longer, drawn-out, depressing cases (Shipman, etc).
IF THEY MADE A MOVIE OF YOUR LIFE, WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?
Russell Crowe. We have a very similar build, has the beard growth already and can sing and play guitar. Russell has won an Oscar so has a proven track-record as a good actor, meaning he could inject the role with passion and commitment necessary.
WHAT WOULD THE PLOT BE?
Working class kid with very good O-levels discovers he has above-average number of talents. Despite popular demand to pursue career in rock music, he discovers his real passion is for managerial role in light industry. Introduces radical new management style. Fat-cat money-men label him maverick loose-cannon, but co-workers (friends) quickly grow to love him and rally behind new leader like scene from Spartacus. At Christmas, receives complimentary bottle of champagne from shareholders.
