The Ace of Spades
Designed by David Domoney
The centrepiece of this garden is a Harley Davidson, which takes pride of place in a large pit shaped like a giant ace of spades and lined with spade heads.
Bike parts, oil drums, old tyres and memorabilia are woven into the garden as bikes and plants share the same space. The planting scheme is dark and dramatic, adding to the hard, urban feel of this very masculine retreat.
"I originally hoped to create a controversial Hell's Angels garden. This has now become a Bikers Garden, named after Motorhead's Ace of Spades.
Riding through the countryside is a shared passion for motorcyclists, but having their own peaceful escape in an inner-city area when the engine stops, is the essence of this garden."
One of favourites from this years show - the planting was beautiful, I loved the mini predator on the table and the other innovative ways the bike parts had been used. The spade sculpture and the story behind it - awesome! And how much do I want that bike?!! Fab!
Wonderful idea, interesting features, beautiful flowers and matching Harley - loved it.
Great and innovative idea, obviously not for everyone - but what an inspired idea and maybe it would encourage people who wouldn't normally be interested in gardening.
A shame about the awful 'art' on the walls - false stereotypes and badly executed. Other than that I think it's a lovely garden. Most bikers would tell Mr Domoney that it's no good unless they can ride the bike right up to the table though!
Great idea, some people forget that bikers are people too. I'm a biker and a landscaper and I love it. Well done David.
Sorry MN your sounding like my Mum!
My husband has a Harley - I am always happier when it is in the garden, sets the beds off a treat!!
What a lost opportunity! Why all the gimmicks? If the plants and and accompanying landscaping was good enough, you would not need these silly distractions
I agree re the completely juvenille and poorly painted artwork
Not good in the garden, but this one is a dream come true, FANTASTIC!

The art work goes with the customising of motorcycles, and unless you are part the biker scene, you would probably not understand this. As my partner and I enjoy both gardening and bikes, we both agree that this is a lovely garden, which encompasses both ideas very well. Well done to the creator.
