1984
Designed by Chris Gutteridge, Antony Cox and Jon Owens
"1984 is the year that all three of us were born. It was also important to us that the garden was an urban retreat that fits with the society created in George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four - an area to escape Big Brother! Finally, the 1980s are back in fashion and we wanted to pick up on current design trends.
By entering the urban category we immediately centred our thinking around the notion of a modern and functional urban space that also had environmental credentials.
Gardens are part of the green corridors supporting wildlife in cities, but they are also an extension of our indoor living areas. In difficult economic times our aim was to create something that related to current social and political issues, but with a kitsch nod to the 1980s!"
An inspiring garden and one that could be realistically replicated either in full or partially by the average gardener. Loved the can water feature and the log wall especially - and the lads were friendly and helpful to talk to! Way to go - think you should have got more than a bronze myself!
This is a fantastic garden - beautifully designed and executed. Well done to all those involved.
Why a Bronze? One of the few gardens that is possible to recreate!
Maybe had they replaced most of the plants with stone and gravel they would have been awarded a gold!
Many of the "gardens" would have fitted into a building exhibition rather than a flower show.
I liked this garden a lot.
For me, this is a fully functional garden for enjoying the summer months. Not quite sure why it only got a bronze to be honest - maybe there's not enough of a gimmick to it?!? Or maybe the horticultural side of it was 'lacking' in some way... Be interesting to read the Judges comments...
This looks like a "proper" garden that one could possibly use as a model, and which gives quiet inspiration. Can't wait to see more of it. Best of luck lads!

Thought this was a great idea for an 'achievable' bang up to date garden. the log wall looked fantastic and it was a fun space to enjoy the outdoors. Well done.
