Bath's Bonekickers makes TV debut

Bonekickers, a new series which was written in Bath and filmed around the West, has come to 91Èȱ¬ One.

Bonekickers

The show was created by the team behind the classics Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.

The six-part series sees a team of archaeologists uncover and solve mysteries from the past.

Writer Ashley Pharoah, who grew up in the city, said "it made so much sense" to set the series there "because of the history".

"Matthew (Graham) and I, my writing partner, were kicking ideas around after Ashes to Ashes and both of us always loved history and loved those '50s movies that inspired Indiana Jones.

"We thought can we do it on television - something as high concept and action-based as that - and that was the starting point."

Mark Horton, Head of Archaeology at Bristol University, was an advisor on the show.

He says the team tried to "weave in as many local stories" as they could.

"Episode two, for example, is heavily based around Bristol - we did a lot of filming around Kings Weston.

"It's a combination of the local but making it nationally and internationally popular."

One of the characters, Professor Gregory Parton, is even said to be based on Mr Horton.

"He's described as Google with a beer gutÌý - I'm not sure if that's a flattering description of me!"

Bonekickers is on 91Èȱ¬ One every Tuesday for six weeks from 8 July 2008 at 9pm.
