Big Hottest Record tonight. The much anticapated new Dizzee Rascal tune 'Holiday'. Its another match up with Calvin Harris and Chrome and, like 'Dance With Me', the chemistry is intact. Amazing when you consider that Diz and Calvin have never recorded in the studio at the same time. Whatever, it works. This is another number one me thinks?
((none))
I've literally just received our hottest record for tonight....Dizzee Rascal with Calvin Harris and Chrome for 'Holiday'. We just had a moment in the office when we heard it - totally amazing - absolutely hands in the air when it drops. Catch Zane chatting to Dizzee and make sure you turn it up at 7.30pm tonight when we play the record. Another number one??!!!!!
Short note today. A bit Glastonburnt. Some live music from this years festival in the Hot slot. The Dead Weather's secret show attracted a lot of people for a secret. And they stayed with little or no recognition of the songs which was great. Here's why....
At last. We've been waiting to get this heavy hitter in the hottest record slot for a few weeks and it was worth the wait. Sway samples the classic 45 King break, 900 Number and updating it perfectly with his own style of brag and boast. Its good to hear Sway in party mode. Often digging very deep lyrically, its good to hear one of the world's freshest rappers brush his shoulders off and let it all hang out. It's a banger.
What can I say? We had the pleasure of some hang time with The No1 Customer, Minister Of Hot Sauce and The King Of Lunches. Aka Beastie Boys. B-Boys In The Cut and Lee Majors Come Again getting exclusive official first plays after some cheeky leakage online. As a bonus, todays blog picks up the show at the start of the interview and you get the full chat and the new music. Seeyas.
See. Told ya last week. How amazing is the new Noah And The Whale song 'Blue Skies'. Written in context with the overall album in some kind of order that makes sense...or something. So Charlie told us. Anyway, so good we played it twice. This is moving music.
Echoes of Chicago House filtering through tonights Hottest Record from the ever evolving Bloc Party. Its like each single they release is their own interpretation of an exciting form of music. And they are undoubtedly heading deeper onto the dancefloor as 'One More Chance' proves. A good one for the more ambitious DJ's this summer. Ok. Have a good weekend. Next weeks Hottest Records include the return of Beastie Boys on Tuesday and Noah and the Whale on Monday.
Powerful stuff in the HOT spot tonight. UK rapper Giggs has a genuine street level buzz around his music right now and big support from Westwood. So it comes as no surprise that Mike Skinner aka The Streets, a man with great ears, would be in the producers seat for his new tune 'Slow Songs'. This is Giggs in reflective mood on a perfectly crafted Skinner beat that makes you stop in your tracks. Or at least it does me. Compelling music me thinks...
Huw in for Zane tonight and what a pleasure to bring you The XX single. Steve Lamacq told me about them a while back (he's had them in session since), and since I mistakenly went to see them supporting Big Pink, I'm a bit in love. They remind me of bands of yesteryear - Young Marble Giants and the Cocteau Twins, bands they didn't really know about until recently. They're like a goth version of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood. Check em out if you don't know 'em. They've been friends since nursery, and their brittle, melancholic beautiful songs fill hearts with joy and wonder. I love em - there's an album forthcoming. Hooray!
The summer starts right here. At least, that's what the blurb says. But to be fair, that's what the tune tells us as well. Calvin Harris told us tonight that he is in a feel good mood. That music can take you to a happier place, and he's ready to spread the joy. Sounds like the new album is going to be smiley affair. Good news.
We need more smiles right now. So, the question is, is everybody ready for the weekend?
Huw again here for Zane....
In the session this week by Florence and the Machine, she told the story of how she was spotted by her now manager singing in the otilets of a club. Fastforwad to now and her debut album, 'Lungs', a big bold beaut of an elpee is ou tin a month or so, and this weeks session was wonderful. Listen again to Wednesday's show to hear the session, and this tune, Cosmic Love, a little taster of what you can expect from the album. Well done, Florence.
Message from Huw... Another beauty from the Kingdom of Rust album, the second single. The band get even more majestic with each album, Jimi's vocals sounding warmer and deeper with every track you hear. Their set at 91Èȱ¬ Radio 1's Big Weekend in May was a highlight of the weekend; a band at their peak who continue to please and attract new fans all the time. So an obvious choice for the Hottest Record in the World tonight by a big bold beautifully intricate band.
Hey, Huw in for Zane this week... Weird and wonderful, deliriously experimental, the synth-tastic night project from VW's Rostam's and RR Riot's Wes bought a smile to our faces. Someone said on the text, I like it but I'm not sure why. They have an album forthcoming and we like the way it grooves. Leave your comments, eh?
The Apprentice? The elections? And now this? D.O.A courtesy of the man himself - Jay-Z - hip hop legend, innovator, entrapaneur - it's just too much to handle for a Monday night. Loved him at Glasto in '08, and almost a year later, the Blueprint 3 drops on September 11th. A mixed reaction on texts, but leave your comments here for when Zane gets back.
Live recorded music to round off this weeks Hottest Rec. Dept. Big exclusive from Gossip a good 2 weeks before its
out and about on the new album 'Music For Men'. Rick Rubin has done a great job of drawing out the soul of this band without losing any of their punk roots. Enjoy.
We threw it out there on text and the people came back en mass. Balearic sunshine vibes given the uptempo Subfocus treatment - full of energy but somehow as reflective as the original. Great record to comeback to. See you tomorrow for a thrashing in Versus, P.Carter.
Tonight's Hottest Record is by Jack Penate. When I heard Tonight's Today on Zane's show I couldn't believe it. I won't lie, I wasn't mad keen on his tunes before. But these new tunes? ASTOUNDING! The singles have been all over Radio 1 , with a gospel worldly wise vibe and a lot of melodies, beautiful stuff tonight from Mr Penate. Really looking forward to seeing him play this live!
The hardest working man is Scottish electro beats history puts his magic touch on the breakthrough record by Mr. Hudson. Kanye's given his seal of approval and has executively produced the new Mr Hudson album, but this Calvin Harris re-working is sure to set the dancefloor on fire this summer.

So, it's the start of a brand new week, and after Bank Holiday Monday and Superstar Week, we're in full swing again with HYPE NIGHT. But you might have seen on Zane's Twitter that our main man is UNWELL! He's at home getting his super-strength back, so in the mean time, Huw Stephens will be stepping in for tonight's show. Single of the Week is the mighty juggernaut of MSTRKRFT and 'Heartbreaker'; Album of the Week is Kasabian - 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' - a week ahead of release.
Hype night continues with Calvin Harris' new remix of Mr. Hudson's 'Supernova', and the new solo project from Paul Banks/Interpol as Julian Plenti. We'll also have a splattering of jump up action from Example and blog star Grum. And don't forget Fresh Meat tonight which will be a rock special. Catch you all later and don't forget to stick around for Grimmy's very first show tonight at 10pm!
