The mood here....and in Turkey....

Mark Sandell Mark Sandell | 12:24 UK time, Monday, 23 July 2007

We've decided to look at the floods here - and at the mood in Turkey after their elections.
: well, water levels are at a 60 year high, the RAF is launching it's biggest peacetime operation and on the 91Èȱ¬'s website it's the most read story on our international site. There is a palpable mood of shock here - how could this happen in "middle England" and of course, people are blaming everything from global warming to the government. Judging by your e-mails, you want to know what's going on as well...

We always have a debate when it comes to stories like this (or we wouldn't be doing our job properly) as we know we'll get (oh alright, we already have) e-mails complaining that we shouldn't be doing it as thousands dies in floods around the world and we don't always reflect that ( except of course in New Orleans and we get criticised for doing TOO MUCH there ), but part of what makes news is it's unusualness and this is unusual believe me.

As for the , what now ?. Lots of comments over the weekend asking if Turkey was getting closer to a "new France or a new Iran ? ". We're bidding for someone from the ruling party to come and take your calls, and a panel of voters to discuss with you the future of this important country.

You'll have seen Anna's earlier post when she talks about the here in London. Chris Rapley says there's a simple way to reduce global warming; cut the population. Martin will also post on this story, but he may pop up at the beginning of the show to give us his views...and hear yours.
