The idea was a simple one - to sift through what's left of "Radio Clwyd" and pick out some material for the Where I Live website. But when I plugged in my headphones, laced up a reel of tape on the old and began listening, it became obvious that there would be a lot more work than I imagined in turning fragments of old news programmes into interesting sound bytes for the internet.
For a start, many of the recordings are "inserts" which were played into the morning news programme "Calling Clwyd". What you get is a report or an interview which unfortunately doesn't mention who the interviewee is - because this would have been included in the link that the presenter read out. So you have a great story, but lacking vital information. We can't just put anonymous voices on the website. Luckily, the senior producer of the day, John Shone, had the foresight to place the first few years into the archives at the. So far, just one trip there has unravelled some of the mysteries of local news from two decades ago.
