Workers big on barnets!

Workers and their hair styles are one of the topics of discussion in our local history section. For Vicky & Maureen have been in touch to raise the issue of steelworkers and textile mill workers who were big on barnets - so much so they'd go to work in their curlers!
Vicky, who worked at Flint's Courtaulds' textile mill, asks in the Flint history section: "How many remember in the 1960s how some of the girls would go to work with rolls in their hair and a scarf on?"
Meanwhile, Maureen, who grew up in Queensferry in the shadow of Shotton Steelworks and served her time at local hairdressers Marjorie's, writes: "This was the busiest hairdressers... especially on Fridays and Saturdays when staff from Summers and Courtaulds used to get their hair done ready for their weekend nights out..."
Vicky adds: "I had a friend at the time who would go to work on the morning shift on a Monday with rollers in her hair take them out on Thursday wash her hair and put them back in again until Saturday!"
