Walking the night in Athens
The problems involving , but what is not so well known is the problem their manager had the night of the Champions League final.
There was a lot of comment that in his press conference on the morning after the match . Wholly understandable given the nature of the and also not helped by the fact that that he did not seem to be sure how much money he had to spend on players.
However, I am told by George Gillett, the American who jointly owns the Reds, that the mood of the manager was not helped by the fact that on the night of the final he did not have a bed in the Liverpool team hotel.
It seems the UEFA allocation of hotel room for Liverpool (in addition to the problems with tickets for fans) also went wrong.
When Liverpool got to the hotel they found there were not enough rooms and Benitez had to give up his room so that his wife and the wife of a club official could share a room and get some sleep.
He and that official spent part of the night, some five hours or so, walking in . Nothing could be more calculated to put a man in a foul mood.
