what do your decorations say about you...?

could it be the ultimate litmus test of your personality? if your christmas decorations do say something about you then this is what our say about us ...

mine say that i'm still up in the attic but when the time comes i'll be quite brightly coloured and a bit sentimental.
JP's say 'i really can't be bothered' or , if you are being kind 'i'm extremely minimalist'.

this theory means that maria is 'sustainable', tim is 'a log cabin', becky is 'homemade and about thirty years old' and
torquil (yes, the legendary torquil) is 'not up yet'.

do try this game.

happy baubling
xx

Personally I mainly stick to indoor decorations but have no objections to other people recreating blackpool illuminations in their front gardens. Though last Christmas I was inspired to write the following poem:

    Mr Smith’s Christmas Decorations

Precariously on his ladder he stands
Florescent angels clasped tight in his hands.
As a strong squalling rain-spattered wind makes him splutter,
He clings by the skin of his teeth to the gutter.

With maintenance of said gutter being quite lax,
It breaks off, and into the window he smacks.
The tinkling glass like sleigh bells all around,
He’s suspended by fairy lights feet from the ground.

As he struggles and writhes trying to make that last drop
The inflatable snowman with explosive ‘POP’
Blows him straight down the path, where his sad journey ends
On a luminous Rudolph and all of his friends.

The moral that his epitaph now bemoans is…
At Christmas, don’t try to keep up with the Joneses.

    Re sustainable Christmas Decorations:

We have the ultimate sustainable Christmas decoration:

HECTOR, our live Christmas tree was purchased with roots attached, and became a member of our family around 6 years ago.

He spends his summers in the garden but gets dressed up and pops in to join us every Christmas.

Hector is now on his 3rd bucket. Apart from that, his only negative contribution to Global Warming was to hitch a lift to Turin and back on our removal lorry when we went to work there for 2 years.

I'm very cheered at your sustainable Xmas tree Martyn as I have been FORCED to buy a tree with roots on by my newly sustainable husband and the last time I did this it only lived into January. I've been told it needs watering every day and am being very responsible so far. Just tell me this - when Xmas is over and you leave it in the garden, do you leave it in its pot or just plant it? I think my last one dried out when left in its pot, and what with global warming etc I don't really fancy its chances... Any tips?
    Ta very much

I have been going off sustainable Christmas (despite being otherwise lean, mean and green) ever since I read that the most sustainable sort of tree is the little plastic sort made of fake tinsel. Do I find myself in a taste v. ethics debate or does anyone have a better idea? Have gone to my parents this Christmas to duck the isue...
