But everyone knows that the success of the Olympic Games is judged most of all on sport and the image the host city projects to the world.

Whether the Village is lived in 10 years later or how much economic benefit was won by or will barely create a ripple on the global news agenda. Compare that with the indelible images of Michael Johnson, Kelly Holmes or Usain Bolt.

New year, new look for 91Èȱ¬ 2012 online

For the latest in our occasional series of guest blogs, here's the man without whom the 91Èȱ¬ 2012 site wouldn't be what it is. Mark Coyle, who runs our 2012 online operation, explains what's changing about it as we get closer to the year's big events.

Out with the old and in with the new - welcome to the new-look 91Èȱ¬ 2012 site.

Our site launched in July 2010 with the purpose of showcasing the 91Èȱ¬'s online, television and radio content arising from the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We've tweaked a few things since then but now, with the arrival of 2012 and the pace increasing by the day, we're going for the line with a bold new design.

Piece of World Cup lands in Olympic Park

Every so often I post a quick update on what we're up to - mainly to keep everyone informed of what the 91Èȱ¬ 2012 project is doing, but also in the interests of accountability. This blog literally answers to you.

So two things to mention today.

First, a long-running theme: we've secured outline planning permission for our studio in the . This will perform a similar function - being at the centre of the action and with a panorama of all the main venues.

The only difference here is that it will be able to accommodate simultaneous broadcasting for 91Èȱ¬ One and 91Èȱ¬ Three.

Anticipating the 91Èȱ¬'s 2012 coverage

I'm going to leave it to everyone else to welcome you to 2012.

But I do want to alert you to our first 91Èȱ¬ 2012 television trail, which is running from New Year's Day onwards. The aim - to excite the widest range of audiences about what we have in store for the year ahead.

If you read this blog regularly, you'll know this is more than just sport - even though are the crowning moment.

So what we've tried to do is capture the music, drama, documentaries and entertainment that will be on our airwaves or accompanying the in the build-up to the Games.
