Recession Road: South Witham

Forever Leisure Motorhomes

As we left the Little Chef near Colsterworth this morning (having not yet succumbed to its "legendary Olympic breakfast"), we popped into a business next door called Forever Leisure.

Manager Jason Bloor emerged from one of a forest of motor homes, parked neatly in rows.

He said the downturn had hit sales of their new vehicles - which go for up to £80,000 - and that had also left a bit of a shortage of trade-ins of good-quality two- or three-year-old models.

But overall, the used market is going okay and things are generally "buoyant", he says. This sales garage at South Witham is a new start, at just four months old, and last month they sold 50 vans across two locations, he says.

"It's a bit different for the motor home sector - a lot of our customers are pension-based. At the moment, they are thinking they may as well take their money out of the bank and spend it."
