Counting Coppers
As I sit in my office in 91Èȱ¬ Westminster, I can hear occasional chanting from Police demonstrators nearby, .
There has been much joking about whether there will be the usual discrepancy between the estimate of numbers taking part from the Police who are 'policing' the demonstration and the march organisers - in this case, the Police Federation.
I suppose I could pop round the corner and count them myself, but I'm not sure that would be any more reliable than some of the methods which have previously been used to count marchers.

Good luck to them, maybe next time there policeing a strike they will have a better understanding of why the people are on strike.
BTW A good estimate I tend to use for numbers is too add the orginisers figure to the police figure and divide by two.
Well having been there I think 20000+ is a conservatative estimate, (just my opinion) a well regulated march, 2.0 miles long, when the lead group were at the 91Èȱ¬ Office many were still at Hyde Park. Irrelevant of how many there were, the point was very well made. It was not the missing 0.6% it was the principle of betrayal from the 91Èȱ¬ Sec.
Makes no odds really on the exact figure, it was the largest Police protest ever and there were more than 15,000 there which was expected so that was a bonus. The important thing is that it increases the pressure on Jacquie (the rip off) Smith, who as we know is out of her depth,it also increases pressure on the government especially if MP's vote for an inflation busting pay rise.
The government has behaved in a totally devious and underhanded way and has done untold damage to the relationship with the Police.
