Tory successes

Nick Robinson | 00:37 UK time, Friday, 2 May 2008

With now just over 220 of the 91Èȱ¬'s key wards declared, the change in vote share for the three main parties is:

CONSERVATIVE +6
LABOUR -2
LIB DEMS -4

The 91Èȱ¬ boffins tell me that it's beginning to look quite likely that the Conservatives have performed better than they did last year, while Labour may be heading for an even worse performance than in 2004. Whether the Lib Dems will end up a little weaker than last year remains uncertain.

Tory sources are predicting that they'll gain 200 council seats - high enough for them to claim real success.

After disappointments in Cheltenham and Worcester they have had successes in Harlow and Nuneaton.

NB. If you're just joining me, you might be interested in this brief guide to what I'm looking out for tonight.

Nick, you have to say that the Nuneaton and Bedworth result will send shock waves through the Labour Party.
The MP Bill Olner held just on in 2005 so if we see the cou ncil taken, I think Bill Olner will be seeing a defeat by his probable sucessor Jayne Innes will be seeing Labour wiped from Nuneaton in both Council and MP.
I am very happy about that, Labour have failed Nuneaton and Bedworth for years and now they are being kicked by it.
I hope the Conservatives can do better in Nuneaton and Bedworth.Lets hope for a Conservative Victory in Nuneaton
(Ive heard that if it was a General Election, the conservatives would have a seat gain of 144 Seats)

Jeremy Vine should do the 2008 Presidential Election, on the condition he does the whole thing in the American accent?

But what happened to Peter Snow!!??

The problem is that new Labour and it is still new Labour the Brown camp is still more conservative than labour has ever been before .
Listening to PM question time on Wednesday in the daily politic it sounded like the sort of rhetoric that was prevalent at the time I first took an interest in politics the age of Mr. Macmillan and Mr Douglas -Hume.
The strange thing is that Brown sounded like them and Cameron sounded like the labour opposition.
So now personally I am green as the only true alternative and pray to the powers that be for a hung parliament to save us from these self serving political parties who's only aim is power .
Just as a point I am 57 years old and I was into politics since the age of nine and the Cuba crisis thats when I first became politicised

    What was the turnout?

Have Labour voters stopped at home?

    Lots of my friends did.

Doorstep, door step, What are these politicians talking about? I have never seen a politician or representative of any political party on my doorstep in 25 years of living in the same house apart form the respect party, the green parry and the british national party. I live in a solid labour borough that ui believe has never ever been any thing else since its orgins and I have never seen a conservative or a labour or a liberal candidate.

what is the concern relating to the BNP gaining so many seats that they are now the third most profitable party?

  • Comment number 11.

sorry, the tory's rightly are gaining many seats.

but to correct my last, the conseratives and the BNP are the only parties to be happy tonight

    BNP are 2nd!!!

Why is that???? it really dimays me that they are a viable alternative

Despite some of the performances on TV by
Boris, Have I got News for You, Liverpool, these comments are made by a passionate man with a classics background.
The real test for Boris is whether he can transfer his learning and background to the difficult task of managing London.
Ken has accomplished a great deal let down by the New Labour Party who have become over bloated with power, and obviously obsessed with their self importance to the extreme.
A fresh face and outlook in politics is invariably a good thing but can his energy be sustained.
Commeth the hour then Commeth the man(or woman).
Just like the Emperor Claudius, who was written off but came to power
in the wake of Gaius's demise, but within a considerable power struggle, likewise Boris needs to control this within the London boroughs and keep new developments and innovations for London on the rails . It will be a signpost as to just how well the conservatives will do at the next election.

    Moving on

The Woe that envelops mr brown is due to worsen when the population wake up to fact that the road tax for most cars,(bought since 2001) is due to double in the near future, this will cause him so much pain that he may resign.

Good luck to Boris!bye the way.

Jeremy vine is an amateur, bring back Peter Snow, The Labour Party! remember them ?
