Revised forecasts
….The chancellor comparing every one of his own revised forecasts - for growth, borrowing and debt - with those under the last Tory government. His message - it maybe tough this year but nothing like as bad as ….
We've just had the first small surprise of the Budget - the chancellor's increasing petrol duty in 2010 above that already announced for "environmental reasons". He announced this while confirming that the 2p duty rise this year will be postponed for six months.

Sun rises; Petrol goes up.
Aye, and what do we think are the chances that your average garage is going to increase its forecourt prices by 0.5p? It has been a very long time since I saw any petrol station advertising its fuel as anything other than x.9p per litre.
I wonder how much money I have lost in my 15-odd years on the roads, by having the actual cost of my fuel purchases rounded up to the nearest whole penny? The Government should be legislating against this sort of shoddy marketing trick, not entrenching it.
But then, what else are we to expect of this Government when its chancellor is prepared to swap a 2p rise in duty for a 2.5p rise, while at the same time insisting he's concerned about the high price of oil?
It may have been bad under the previous Tory Government, but that was because they were sorting out the mess left by the previous Labour Government. Something Labour appear to forget. Let's just hope it doesn't happen again.
How exactly does he expect putting up fuel to help the environment? Their wish to build 3 million additional homes is probably the most damaging policy to the environment, especially seeing some of the locations for proposed "eco-towns". I've yet to see environmentally-friendly concrete. Why can't they just tell the truth and say "because it's an easy way to earn money" and stop waving the environmental flag!
First suprise of the budget!!
What suprise, the legal motorist as ever seems to be continually used as an inexhaustable source of income for this goverment with their ever increasing taxes.
What a joke. Has to be said that the chancellor is reading Gordon Brown's speech very well
