Prospects for Wednesday, 27 August, 2008

Stuart Denman | 10:56 UK time, Wednesday, 27 August 2008

Good morning. Well, Hillary has spoken and Bill's up next. Gavin's still in Denver and Kirsty is in London for tonight's programme - here's today's output editor Shaminder with more:

Hello everyone,

We have the first of our series of films on illegal immigration from investigative journalist Sorious Samura. Tonight he reveals the route which many illegal immigrants take to get into this country.

There's more of course from our team in Denver. Bill Clinton and Joe Biden are speaking today.

And David Miliband is off to Ukraine.

Anything else?

See you in a minute,
Shaminder

    DAILY BREAD AND DYSFUNCTIONAL CIRCUSES

It is well established that for Newsnight to step outside the lie of British political chicanery, would be to bite the sleight of hand that feeds it. But might you not get Oliver James in more often to comment on the underlying psychology of the multi-million dollar parade of dysfunction that is the American way? At least then we might know what bizarre mental processes gave us Dubya Bush, Nixon and the rest, and we can then watch, with informed horror, as they 'do it all again'.

How about another look at GBeebies' spin over Team GB in the light of today's Daily Record article ?

BTW, the Daily Record is NOT my normal choice of reading and normally comes over pretty hard-line unionist. Could they be inching themselves onto the fence?

Russia should give up the conflict in Chechnya as they want independence, but the West should give up on the Georgian break aways. They clearly want to be on the Russian side of the fence.

Diplomacy is the answer. There is too much posturing and rhetoric.

Super-Miliband will probably write a stinging essay at some point and that will be taken enormously seriously all around the world. They probably can't wait.

This could be a very, very serious situation and I hope, but doubt, that people will try to assess the facts, like the large numbers of Russian ethnic casualties. I still have not heard any Western politician, barring the OCSE, even mention them.

the biggest danger is that the neocons now how another 'evil'. Watch who uses such theological language in the UK Govt.

Taking that description of PR [from P Barrons last blog] as the ability to make people 'laugh about it' then from the evidence our FO has no idea of PR.

which sounds better? threats and warnings or taking the russians to a smart restaurant with music that provokes dancing , vodka, laughter and tears so that by the end it of it no one remembers what the problems were in the first place?

as for the music something like this on ytube would do.

Angels Trio, Two Guitars, Russian Gypsy Folk Song

    or

Angels Trio, Hungarian Dance No. 5, J. Brahms/D. Tringov
