91Èȱ¬ Backstage Widget Competition
Having rebooted the backstage.bbc.co.uk server, we are keen to see some more prototypes and ideas.
So we feel its time for a backstage.bbc.co.uk competition, we are offering you the opportunity to get very creative and build prototypes that blow us all away. But this time we are going to set the final output type to be a . Plus we have arguably the best "geek gadget" prizes for the creator of the winning prototype.
The winner of the competition will receive a super geeky but ever-so cool . The winner will also be invited to the 91Èȱ¬ to discuss their widget and take a tour of Television Centre and the Media Village as guests of the backstage.bbc.co.uk team.
We also have a , a well known media player and a few mystery prizes to give away as runners-up and special prizes.
You must include a in the widget, but your welcome to mix our content with anyone else's under the . There is also no restriction on widget, gadget engine.
We are looking for widgets that break the box. Things which may not be the most stylish or polished but are creative and do clever things. Here's some widgets we have running on our machines or we like the idea of...
The competition closes on Wednesday 1st of November, and the winners will be announced at a special winter backstage.bbc.co.uk event which will happen on Monday 6th November. More details about that event to follow soon... But please do start submitting your and we will start putting them up on the site.
Backstage Competition Rules
1. This competition is open to both UK residents and those living overseas.
2. If you are under the age of 12 you must obtain permission from your parent/guardian before you enter this competition.
3. If you contribute a Winning entry (i.e. an entry that wins first, second or third prize), you agree and acknowledge that the 91Èȱ¬ may link to your prototype from any 91Èȱ¬ website (and reference your prototype in 91Èȱ¬ publicity material).
4. You must also provide the 91Èȱ¬ with your name to enter this competition. The 91Èȱ¬ will only use your personal details for the purposes of administering the competition, and identifying the creators of the winning entries. You agree and acknowledge that should your prototype be deemed one of the winning entries, the 91Èȱ¬ may publish your name along with your prototype. 5. The 91Èȱ¬ shall provide a first, second and third prize to the best entries. First prize shall be a Samsung Q1 or UBiQUiO 701 Origami PC, second a Nokia 770 internet tablet and third prizes shall be a popular Media Player (Microsoft Zune or Apple IPod). Prizes must be taken as stated and cannot be transferred. There will be no cash alternatives.
6. More than one entry will be accepted per person.
7. The editorial teams decision shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
8. The winners will be decided on the 6th November 2006. Winners will be announced at the special backstage event and contacted by email afterwards if not at the event.
9. The 91Èȱ¬ does not accept any responsibility for late or lost entries due to the internet. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
10. Entrants must supply full details as required and comply with all rules to be eligible for the prizes. No responsibility is accepted for ineligible entries or entries made fraudulently.
11. 91Èȱ¬ competitions are not open to employees or contractors of the 91Èȱ¬, any person directly or indirectly involved in the 91Èȱ¬ or the running of the competition, or their direct family members.
12. The 91Èȱ¬ reserves the right to cancel a competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
13. Prizes unclaimed after 28 days will be deemed to have been forfeited and the 91Èȱ¬ reserves the right to either offer the prize to the entrant whose name is next drawn at random, or to re-offer the prize in any future competition on the 91Èȱ¬.
14. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering a competition. Entrants will also be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by any extra rules that appear on the site where the competition is hosted.
15. These rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
