The Big Picture - you can't miss it

Winning images from The Big Picture will appear on giant billboards to show a snapshot of Birmingham.

With a month to go for the West Midlands to claim the record for the largest photo mosaic in the world, eight giant billboards will be unveiled at city centre locations from 2nd June, to reveal a unique snapshot of the West Midlands.

The photographs, taken by local people from across the region, were submitted as part of the exciting new arts project, The Big Picture and will be reproduced on huge 48 sheet billboards.

They were chosen from thousands of images sent in on Big Picture Day, held earlier this month, and will front a publicity campaign to encourage local people to be part of the project's ambitious record breaking attempt to create the largest photo montage in the world.

Kerry Endsor, Project Manager for The Big Picture, said: "The images capture a special or memorable moment in time for each of our winners.

"They really sum up what the Big Picture is all about, creating a unique snapshot of the Region through the eyes of the people that live here."

The full list of winners includes:

  • Alex Starford from Stoke, for his photo 'Promotion! Sunset behind the Boothen End'
  • Tony Coates, for his photo 'Grandson at Wonderland' in Shropshire
  • Emily Callen from Worcester, for her photo of feeding swans
  • Jay Chaudri from Birmingham for the photo 'Consumed by a deck chair!'
  • Martyn Duggan for his image of Hereford City
  • Linda Wilton for her photo of a rainbow over Walsall
  • Julia Haywood from Coventry for her photo 'What mess?'
  • Andrew Edge from Wolverhampton for his photo of his dog

The billboard campaign marks the final countdown for The Big Picture and the West Midlands to claim the World Record for the largest photo mosaic. Over 105,000 imgaes are needed by 30th June to break the existing record, and local residents are being encouraged to get involved by submitting their photos to the online gallery www.inthebigpicture.co.uk.

Share your special photos

Kerry Endsor said: "The Big Picture is a fantastic opportunity for local people to share their special photos and claim this World Record for the West Midlands. We've been overwhelmed by the huge response that we've had from people across the region, and the fascinating images and stories that we've received to date.

"With one month to go we're on the final straight and are urging people to send us their photos throughout June so that they can feature in the largest mosaic in the world: we can promise that the end result will be spectacular!"
