3 people an hour are injured on UK roads

The equivalent of 16 planeloads of passengers are killed on Britain's roads each year.

In the UK, in 2006, 3,172 people were killed on the roads. In the West Midlands, in 2006, 1,142 people, including 189 children, were killed or seriously injured in road accidents.

91Èȱ¬ WM's Drive to stay Alive campaign aims to raise awareness of the four mainÌý causes of death and injury on the roads.

• Excessive speed
• Drink driving
• Use of mobile phones whilst driving
• The non-use of seat belts
