Sarah Walker

Join Sarah Walker every weekday afternoon from 1 - 4 for the very best in chat and special guests from across Berkshire. You can also catch Sarah every morning reading the news from 7 on the Andrew Peach show.

Sarah Walker

Sarah grew up in Leicestershire and graduated from Cardiff University in the year 2000.

Since then she's been broadcasting across Berkshire, and you can now hear her every afternoon from 1 as well as weekday mornings with Andrew Peach.

What makes you laugh?

People with a very dry sense of humour and observational comedy. I love Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr, Harry Hill and Russell Brand. I also work with plenty of comedians!

What's your most embarrassing moment on air?

I burped the first time I ever appeared on air. It was literally the first thing that came out of my mouth.

Clearly the nerves of reading the horse racing results on my 91热爆 local radio station and the can of fizz that I had just beforehand were not a good combination.

Where is your favourite place in Berkshire?

So many! The little pub in Theale where I fell in love with my fianc茅, The Old Mill at Aldermaston, the countryside of West Berkshire, Bucklebury Farm Park (I love feeding the goats) and the Madejski Stadium.

What are your most memorable jobs before working for 91热爆 Radio Berkshire?

The worst job I had was stocking the shelves of a petrol station stockroom. I had a horrible boss and used to eat to console myself between deliveries. Needless to say, I put on quite a few pounds.

I've also been savaged by dogs on paper-rounds and savaged by Welsh rugby fans covering matches for a radio station in Cardiff.

Highlights of my time in radio definitely include making Ricky Gervais laugh in an interview, being kissed by Chesney Hawkes as he sang 'You Are the One and Only' to me and getting to interview my hero - Gary Lineker.

What鈥檚 your favourite piece of music?

So many again! More Than Words by Extreme, Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears For Fears, Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol and O Mio Babino Caro by Puccini.

Your interview on Friday after 3 in the afternoon was brill. I like the way you asked just the right sort of question..too many interviewers like the sound of their own voice. You dont. It was really good. You and Henry Kelly are real credits to local radio Berkshire.

Alice

Don't knock the Camper Van or any form of camping. Just think long warm summer evenings, BBQ on the go, glass of plonk in hand, no oneto spoil your evening. I have been camping for 20 plus years from tent to camper and caravan, now i have retired i intend to use my caravn to the full.Try the New Forest sites a few times they are basic but good then make up you mind if you like it.

Jenny
Hi Sarah, spoke to you this week regarding 3 tuns road works. Work has started but just with narrowing of lane, traffic not too bad at so far. Where are you going to put Camper!! Had a VW camper years ago when kids small it was great then, but we all out-grew it,the kids cried when we got rid of it. My partner has bought a caravan--much more civilised. But both can be cosy.

Re Jade - how I feel for this tough cookie who's been fed to the lions more than once by the media who have blatantly taken advantage of her ignorance and naivity. Most of us have had a love/hate relationship with the girl .. many (including me) allowing her sad, disfunctional 'lack of childhood as we know it' to be her saving grace. Since 'fame' hit her I don't think she's deliberately flaunted herself with 'bad' publicity, she's worked hard and honestly - shame more 'famous' people don't do the same. I hated seeing her genuine tears of remorse after the Shilpra Shitti 'do' - with her eyes wide open she'd followed the pack of silly young girls who should have known better (having had more parental guidance and education)... it made great TV (I don't think)and put her through a hell she didn't deserve. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought her discovery of cancer of the Indian Big Brother was little more than a publicity stunt and are stunned to see the reality of the matter. I am completely anti these already rich celebrities 'selling' their weddings to magazines so they can enjoy even more luxury - Jade's circumstances are completely different as SHE personally is the only one that WON'T benefit in the long term but in this way can provide her boys with the secure childhood she never had herself. It's a cruel blow and I admire the way she's dealing with it now - making others aware - and filming etc must be giving her more to concentrate on than just her awful illness which can only be good. Good Luck to her at her Wedding which is bound to be incredibly emotional and I hope what life she has left is as 'comfortable' as possible.

James from Bracknell
How's your 'City Shorts' collection coming on?!

Doug, my husband, and I have been going to the Mill at Sonning regularly, for 26 years ever since it opened. sally gave us an exclusive back stage tour last year as it was the Mill's 25th anniversary (and also ours for attendance)Next month we'll be ther with my mother in law and my son. Her birthday is on the 3rd October and my husband and son are on the 4th,which is the day we'll be at the Mill. We love going there the staff are lovely and the plays are always very good and there is the added bonus of great food too. Got to go out now. Sheila

Photos! Yes Sarah! Hope you are well! Many years ago when registering my friend's death at Yeomany House Registry Office (Castle HIll in reading), I encountered a wedding party having their photograph shoot outside the building!Being somewhat down in the dumps, having previously performed my unsavoury task and waiting for some ten minutes for this party to finish filming, I decided to storm through this mass of flashing cameras to reach my car! It occurred to me, sometime later, that when the happy couple were perusing their developed photos of the days events they will suddenly detect this strange character the question would be; who was this ? Who invited him? Dind't see him at the reception! PS You are not mistaken! There most certainly 'IS' a version of the Whitly whiff! Still "extremly" evident, particularly in the early AM.

Jackie, Basingstoke
I enjoyed all the music you played from mumma mia. I have seen it 3 times and got the CD. everybody in the cimema clapped at the end of it.My family and i thought it was brilliant!!

Linda, Twyford
I always look forward to you presenting a show as the music is so much better. I sometimes have to switch to Radio 2 when I hear Diana Ross sing Chain Reaction for the umpteenth time. Please get Henry (and Andrew) to revise their playlists, as I am 60 and their records are too ancient for me!

Sue
Hi Sarah, my significant other aka Peter told me that you were going to get married at the Mill at Aldermaston or have your reception there or whatever! He is a great fan, mostly vague and I hope that we haven't booked the date you wanted! Great choice. He tunes in earlier than I do - are you getting married or was it wishful thinking?

Eileen Shoosmith, Winnersh

for Sarah Walker on first footing this from the wikapedia and the coal is NOT wapped in a "muslim" as said on your programme! It's traditional in Scotland to go "first-footing" on Hogmanay, a wonderful excuse to go out visiting friends and partying all night, but certain things are essential to make your New Year go with a swing. Here's our pocket guide....Hawf (half) BottleYour most important travelling companion. For it's traditional - and polite - to offer just about everyone you see a "dram". It's also traditional for it to be whisky. Though in these more cosmopolitan times, it could be anything alcoholic. Lump of CoalIn days of yore never mind the whisky, it was traditional for First Footers to carry a lump of coal with them. This was lovingly placed on the host's fire. If you're determined to do Hogmanay by the book then take the coal by all means but be prepared for some grief when you set it on top of the central heating radiators!ToastsNot pieces of carbonised bread in case of hunger pangs on your New Year yomp, but the good wishes you bestow on Hogmanay gatherings.A simple and appropriate one is:A guid New Year to ane an a' And mony may ye see(A good New Year to one and all And many may you see)

Doug fm Andover
Happy New Year Sarah,Your tradition of carrying a piece of coal into the house is: First Footing.Traditionally the first visitor of the New Year would bring Food, Drink & Coal as good luck tokens for the coming year. Have a great 2008!

Chris from Tadley
Hope your cat turns up soon

Julie from Wokingham
Good morning Sarah!I heard your itm about visiting opticians (I've had to do this since age 10, being very short-sighted) and I think I can say why the little torch made the microphone whistle. It was probably an LED torch, and to adjust the brightness they need to be driven by a series of variable electrical pulses at a fairly high frequency - high enough to avoid flicker, say a few kHz, which would certainly be audible!BTW, I retire next Wednesday... :(

PETE OF HENLEY
ONE OF YOUR NEWS ITEMS MENTIONED SPENDING MILLIONS OF POUNDS IMPROVING JUNCTION II OF M4 WITH A33 TO SOLVE THE CONGESTION. TWELVE YEARS AGO IT WAS PLANNED TO BUILD A BRIDGE OVER THE M4 CARRYING JUST THE A33 TRAFFIC, THIS WAS THE BEST SOLUTION BUT NEVER HAPPENED. PERHAPS RADIO BERKSHIRE COULD ASK THE PLANNERS WHY? DID NOT THEY LEARN FROM THE DISASTER OF THE I.D.R. ALL THOSE YEARS AGO

Colin Mills
SarahGlad you joined radio Berkshire, I bet you unjoy it a lot more than the last radio station!! PS Tadley is a good place, I was born there just a little while ago!!

Ellie Camberley

Greta
I know it may be a bit latein the day but on my travels to work I have heard all about your "photo" etc and the ragging you were getting from Peachy. Now I have seen both, I really like the original coloured photo. Its lovely of you and by the looks of all the other comments, they agree as well. Black or white, or coloured, you look pretty good to me - looks as though you have a long male fan club.

Shaun - Winnersh
Why do you hate your photo being taken you are one of the most georgous ladies I have seen. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Lets see more pictures of you. X
