Bassist Mark doubles up as a groovy rapper. Listen to their track Stow by clicking on the audio link and you'll hear him in lyrical action.
The tracks are all written by different band members, with each member having input and introducing their own influences.Ìý Tobi's roots are in jazz and this makes for interesting rhythms and drumming expression, Marks influences are dance and hip hop, providing funky bass lines and old school rap vocals and Alan has a rock background providing exquisite guitar solo's and fresh, confident rhythm guitar. Gabi listens to all sorts of contemporary music and with roots in Italy even provides some Italian flavours and passion to Tonic's vibrant set. In its current line-up Tonic has only been going since Christmas 2005 and prior to this Tonic have been around for a couple of years with the previous singer Debbie on lead vocals and for a while Pete on keyboards, who now plays in funk band Kaldera.Ìý The first gig with Gabi on lead vocals was at the Cellar Bar in Oxford on May day, where Tonic had a fabulous reception playing to a sell-out audience.Ìý Tonic are busy with new material getting it up to speed for gigging and hope to record some of the tracks after the summer.Ìý Currently they have a three-track demo, which can be obtained on request and at gigs and this features three of their older tracks, but with the current line-up.Ìý The best way to appreciate Tonic is to watch them live at one of their forthcoming gigs. |
