A Beggar's OperaThey're from Reading and are fronted by two brothers. They're not talkative on stage, and so fittingly A Beggar's Opera don't offer a band biog, just a review from a magazine. Listen to one of their tracks and have your say below. |

"..never do care, tonight was rescued by none other than local 'shoestring' storytellers; A Beggar's Opera. Full of very excellent songs with reference points spearing through The Beatles, Bob Dylan with a smattering of The Kinks toward a more up-to-date, more melodic Libertines. They possessed the kind of confidence that a band who had been touring for years would have.

"The lyrical content was much about championing the 'underdog', stories about being in front of the magistrates and references to Stalin. The content and the lyrics set these guys apart from other Libertines infused meanderings, 'Give me crack and **** sex'..what??? did they just say that! And why am I shocked? Me who champions punk, punk, punk? Because it came out of the mouths of Britpop inspired pretty boys like a salt rock in the face..and er..isn't it a tad uncouth for British Popular music? **** yeah! Drugs and Sodomy! What would our Victorian fore fathers say!? Go-on mess it up some more! They also did a cover of Bob Dylan's 'No Direction 91Èȱ¬' which was brilliantly done and very daring..."
