Rothesay was a popular holiday destination from Victorian times onwards. Going 'Doon the Water' was something most West of Scotland folk experienced. The pier at Rothesay was always crowded with holidaymakers and the famous 'Pointing Porters' singled out passengers by pointing to them as the boat came in. When the passenger pointed back, the deal was struck. The porters were licensed and this enamel No 1 badge was issued to John Stewart.
